The researchers make it clear they are not making a value judgment between the two styles. Personally, I skew more heavily toward literary fiction (actually, these days, non-fiction) but I read both. Of literary fiction the researches say, "It is important, but it can paralyze us in our attempt to navigate the social world. " This explains so much about my social experiences in school.
